History of Reiki
It is believed to have begun in Tibet several thousand years ago. Unfortunately, the original source itself was forgotten.

Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian educator in Kyoto, Japan, rediscovered the root system in the mid- to late 1800s. He began an extensive twenty-one-year study of the healing phenomena of history's greatest spiritual leaders. He also studied ancient sutras (Buddhist teachings written in Sanskrit). He discovered ancient sounds and symbols that are linked directly to the human body and nervous system which activate the universal life energy for healing.

Dr.Mikao Usui then underwent a metaphysical experience and became empowered to use these sounds and symbols to heal. He called this form of healing Reiki and taught it throughout Japan until his death around 1893.

The tradition was passed through several grandmasters of Reiki such as Dr. Chujiro Hyashi, Hawayo Takata, and Phyllis Lei Furumoto. Reiki was introduced to the Western world in the mid-1970s. Since then its use has spread dramatically worldwide.

The creator and developer of this Reiki cult was Mikao Usui, and this therapy was introduced in the 20th century in Japan. According to the legend, Mikao Usui himself was blessed with this power after he passed a rigorous period of fasting and meditation at the top of Mount Kurama. Today also, the practitioners of this culture follow the same technique followed by Usui to attain the state of spiritual elevation while the power of Reiki can be achieved.

According to the believers of Reiki cult, this flow of energy is present in every living being, and the Reiki master, with his powerful energy flow, only transmits this spiritual power in reducing stress and helps to get relief from the ailment. Reiki is a form of meditation and is used to treat physical and mental ailments.

This method is known as attunement. Once the energy is transferred within the learner, he is allowed to modulate his life force energy to help others to recover from their ailment and to improve the quality of life for him as well as for others.

Although the work procedure of Reiki is extremely intricate, the process itself, on the contrary, is too simple to learn. It is the integrity of the master and the student that transfers the power from the mentor to the learner and the learning process needs to be backed by meditation and concentration at the spiritual level.
