Righteous living III - Decision...

Which part of our body decides right and wrong? As far as our knowledge of Physiology guides us, we know that it's brain that acts in the domain.i.e. the area of reasoning. Brain is seated within our head, which judges every situation with the help of logical faculty and prompts us to take decision on a point on the basis of reason.
But are we always glad to obey the dictates of our brain? If we practice to analyse the tasks performed singly or jointly by us throughout a day regularly every night before going to bed, or in the next morning,we will discover that we are not fully satisfied with those.

When one or more of our actions makes us sad instead of'making us glad we need introspection of our feelings or thoughts which prompted those actions.

Thought >Action >Habit >Character >Destiny.

This is a logical chain of cause and effect. So actions, other than those compelled by external forces are nothing but translated thoughts or feelings. A thought of the present moment may be a step towards building destiny.

Until and unless we come to the conclusion about the effects of our statements and/or actions on people around us and the society,we're not in a position to consider question of righteousness of a particular comment or step taken. The more we observe the effects of our actions and analyse the same in the light of truth and welfare of the society, wiser we become. Righteous living means steps taken (including remarks made) to serve self interest and helping others,as far as possible. That is a social obligation and humanitarian task.

Then we will need combining and comparing external and internal voices. Brain dictates actions in consistency with outer voice which is sometimes opposed by inner one. Suppose you become happy by deceiving someone else and relish that success achieved through your instantaneous cunningness. But you feel simultaneously (if you're not very insensitive) that someone inside you rebukes you for such action and as a result you lose all your delight and start hating yourself. The latter is dictated probably by your inner-self which according to some seers and scriptures, is seated within your heart, not inside your brain.

That inner self, when unhappy and angry may snatch all pleasures and satisfactions of your past actions and achievements instantly. Therefore, constant vigilance on thoughts and actions, is essential for righteous living.
